Scholarships

MTSU Theatre and Dance has scholarships available for incoming freshman, transfer, and current students majoring in Theatre.
More information on each scholarship is available below. Form submissions and any questions can be directed to Theatre.Dance@mtsu.edu


Application Submissions

Applications will accepted January 1st – April 1st (With the exception of the Dale E. McGulliard Scholarship due March 1st).

Scholarships available to Incoming Freshman and Transfer Students

Dorethe Tucker Scholarship
Eligibility

  • Future or current Major in Theatre
  • Currently have an average of B or better on all courses
  • Intention to develop Acting and Directing skillset

Application Process

  • Letter outlining why the candidate believes they are deserving of the scholarship and why they are dedicated to pursuing a degree and career in Theatre
  • Completed Theatre Scholarship Application Form
  • Deadline : April 1st

Robert Aden Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility

  • Future or current Major in Theatre.
  • Intention to develop skills in all areas of Theatre

Application Process

  • Letter outlining why the candidate believes they are deserving of the scholarship and why they are dedicated to pursuing a degree and career in Theatre
  • Completed Theatre Scholarship Application Form
  • Deadline : April 1st

Clayton Hawes Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility

  • Future or current Major in Theatre.
  • Currently have an average of B or better on all courses
  • Intention to develop skills in technical theatre

Application Process

  • Letter outlining why the candidate believes they are deserving of the scholarship and why they are dedicated to pursuing a degree and career in Theatre
  • Completed Theatre Scholarship Application Form
  • Deadline : April 1st

Dale E. McGulliard Performing Arts Scholarship
Eligibility

  • Future or current Major in Theatre
  • Intention to devleop Skills in Performance

Incoming Freshman

  • 2.0 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale in their intial 3 years of highschool

Transfer Students

  • 2.0 GPA or better for all courses attempted at all institutions of higher education attended

Application Process

  • Video presentation of applicant performing 3 separate monologues of selections consisting of 1 serious, 1 humorous, and 1 musical theatre selection (or another selection of an applicant’s choosing). Total recording to be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. Recordings that are longer than 5 minutes may be disqualified for consideration. The performance must be a continuous, unedited recording and have the time and date included.
  • Official copies of all academic transcripts.
  • Letter outlining why the candidate believes they are deserving of the scholarship and why they are dedicated to pursuing a degree and career in Theatre
  • Completed Theatre Scholarship Application Form
  • Deadline : March 1st

Scholarships available to Current Students

Lowell and Barbara Jones Scholarship in Scenic Design
Eligibility

  • Current MTSU Theatre Major in good standing
  • Must have demonstrated a dedication to a pursuit in the field of Scenic Design
  • Must have a proven record of dedication to the Scenic Design aspects of the department

Application Process

  • Submission of an on-line portfolio.
  • Completed Theatre Scholarship Application Form.
  • Deadline : April 1st

Richie Smith Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility

  • Current MTSU Theatre Major in good standing
  • Must have a proven record of dedication to MTSU theatre
  • Must have demonstrated a dedication to a pursuit of theatre as a career

Application Process

  • Letter outlining why the candidate believes they are deserving of the scholarship and why they are dedicated to pursuing a degree and career in Theatre
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Completed Theatre Scholarship Application Form.
  • Deadline : April 1st

Anne Holland Dance Scholarship
Available to current students with a 3.0 GPA or better. Beginning 2017-2018 students must be a Dance major to be eligible. Faculty in dance will select recipients.
